Rendering - Volume Loss?

I tried mixing a project with Vegas Video today, and I
wanted to render a drum sub mix.. Using the "Render"
option, and the "Save As" option, the wav file was VERY
quiet. The peaks were at -18dB, although the bus meters
were peaking at -.1dB. I tried rendering the entire song
with the same results. Am I missing something here?

I also had this symptom when I upgraded from VP1b to VA2a. In
addition, I discovered some bug that causes the cpu to reach 100%
usage (Norton SystemDoctor)in the middle of certain mixes of 5 or
6 .wav files using minimal effects. This project was concieved and
mixed at 16bit-44khz, so don't tell me it's bandwidth.

Note: The identical test above yields 35-40% of cpu usage under VP1b
and there were no other programs in the background. "EndItAll.exe"
took care of that.
PS ACID Pro 2.0 can run the equivalent project (.wav files and
effects) with no problem. I also own and use ACID Pro 2.0 on this
system.

I also don't like the fact that Video is more prevalent in VA2a, than
it's predecessor. Every menu or tab now has something to do with
video. (I don't edit video and don't appreciate the fact that I had
to deinstall and hack the registry in order to remove any trace of my
USB "weeCam" that VP1b didn't seem to mind I had...

Note: Think templates or wizards "Are you making an Audio project or
a video project or both?" Or how about: "Do you want to install
Vegas' hi-tech video editing features?"

I already owned XFX1,2 and 3....Why did I have to pay for them in the
upgrade? I'd just bought the effects 1 month earlier.

Note: Think modular. If the user already has the latest effects
(recently downloaded), then the user shouldn't have to buy them again.
The upgrade price should have been $49.95. I'll keep my own directx
effects.

The only mistake I made was saving a very important, nearly finished
project in the new version, thus killing all the tweaks. I'm now
manually restoring the project by running both versions
simultaneously back and forth and going track by track, effect by
effect, painful db by painful db. Needless to say, I'm not
thrilled....I didn't ask to be a BETA tester, but in this case, I was
the fool.

Note: While BOTH programs are running the same project, VP1b is rock
solid and VA2a gapping and popping.

While I know SF will get it right eventually, thus making VAnn the
best of these types of programs, I have to say that the best solution
for you is reinstalling VP1b and wait for VA2b.

And to think, I upgraded only because I wanted the envelope/event
feature, because honestly, the Media Pool Window is not much of a
feature compared to rock solid performance.

Wish List:
A real MONO button. Yes, yes, I know; click on the speaker in the
mixer window.....It doesn't seem to MONOFY the effects chain. For
example: The whole mix will be mono and you'll have the Multi-Tap
delay ping-ponging all over the place

Incidentally, I use:
(P3-700, 128mb ram, Viper V770 32mb, 9G Seagate Barracuda UWSCSI HD +
40G Maxtor 7200rpm HD, Delta 66 for (96/24), SBLive2 for (44/16),
running on WIN98SE)

Note to Sonic Foundry: Call me if you're interested in my findings or
care to know any other info I may have. I'm not trying to condemn
Vegas, I'm trying to help. It's in my best interest to have this
software be successful.
Regards,
George
