Rendering wmv V9 problem

Rendering in Windows Media Player V9 ("wmv) works great on main computer but will not work on laptop. The template box say "template not available". I surmised that the templates were not loaded properly. Updated to version 7a with no success. also reloaded Windows Media Player version 11 which also didn't help. The only difference I could find was that the desktop had a 2002 version software and the laptop had a 2004 version of WMP.

Because of this huge project I am working on I will not update the Windows Media Player on my desktop to see if I get the same results as the laptop.

I wanted to use the laptop be cause it is a faster processor 3.0 and newer, desktop is a 2.4Ghz and about 7 years old.Laptop is one of the first HP 7000 series large screen laptops.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is just a swag, but it could be that you need to install WMP 9, not 11. If VMS is looking for something specific from WMP9 to do the encoding, it may not be finding what it needs if you've only got 11. If your desktop started out with WMP9, it likely has everything it needs even if you subsequently upgraded to 11.

Unfortunately, WMP9 is no longer available for XP systems.

I had to install the Windows Media Encoder 9 package.
It's available on the MS site.
