repeated crashes

I downloaded Vegas pro 9.0e trial version last week. Nice features, pretty face,
but frankly I'm unimpressed with the repeated crashes. Vegas Pro 9 repeatedly locks up with an error message like "Vegas has stopped working..." even during a simple preview.
My Dell quad-core ran Vegas Platinum without a glitch.
I'm loading clips from a Sony HVR-A1U relatively noise-free and nary a dropped frame. I'm going to run out the rest of my trial version, then probably go back to Studio (at least until Sony chases the bugs out of this thing). It would be nice to hear from Sony, after all those crash reports I sent.

as ever, no one can even begin to help unless you start by at least posting sys specs, os, etc.,

'nary a dropped frame'? does this mean you're getting dropped frames during capture?

Your cam is HDV and unless they have changed things lately, the trial version of vegas does not come with the mpeg2 encoder.

Computer specs and your workflow might be worth mentioning as well. My guess is that there is more likely something wrong in this department somewhere. Vegas is pretty rock solid with HDV

It's also possible that the OP DOES have the mpeg encoder on his system - but the one that comes with Vegas Studio he's been using the full version of.

This may cause all kinds of conflicts when running Vegas Pro trial.
