I am not sure if there is a 'replace' function, but I would grab the new clip, insert it on a spare video track above the original to get the length and start/end positions correct (with snap on!), and then right click - copy from the original and then right click -'past attributes' on the new event. Now just delete the original and slide the new event into place.
Sounds compex, but is isn't.

Go to Project Media, right click on the media item for the event, select "Replace".

Another option is to right-click the new footage, drag it to the original event, and choose the option to "add as take". Then you can switch back and forth between the two simply by pressing "T" when it's selected.

Hi, what LJA suggests is what cones closest to what I want.
Then I do not have to touch the events or tracks at all. However, when having several events linked to one media source, it won't work because other events linked to the same source will also have their source changed.

I can create subclips for each event, of course, but that is countrproductive as long as the need for this replacement I am after arises only occasionally.

What I had hoped was to able to right click any event and then edit the media source for this event, and thereby preserve all settings.

I think "add as take" is the closest you are going to get to that feature. It works very well, you just need to use the trimmer to set the start point of the replacement video.

Dave T2 and jetdv,

you are right!
I misunderstood in the beginning, there is a difference between using the right mouse button and the left when dragging and dropping :-)

Now I know a lot more, and I especially like that I can add only video to tracks (no sound), I was not aware of this. And I wish I knew the "takes" feature before.

Thanks a lot folks for great tips, I really like this feature!
