chopped up about 3 hours of DV. then realized it was wrongly captured with mono audio (1 channel)

need to recapture footage

how to then replace timeline footage while maintaining edits?

i was under the impression that "add as takes" does not work if its all chopped up + moved some of it from original postition

Did you do a batch capture? Hopefully you did. Recapture (preferably to a different folder, just to be safe), check clip by clip to make sure they're identical to the originals, rename them to match the original AVIs and replace them.
Even if you did a "capture tape" you should be OK doing this. As I said though, make sure the clips are the same as far as start/end times go and it should work.

You could save a copy of veg file with a name like PROJECT_RECAPTURE.veg.
Then just check the veg file and see if the project plays correctly rather than the individual clips. That should be quicker.

If you do have replace clip by clip, you should still be able to add clip by clip, it would be a bit tedious, but it should be accurate.
