Replacement for Acid 7

Kit-As-Was wrote on 12/28/2016, 2:21 AM

Just spent the afternoon wrestling with Acid and it won't let me record. And it has the nasty habit of locking up on my PC. Think it's time for a replacement, but what? I had a quick look at reaper and it would record without problem but it feels/looks clunky compared to Acid. What are other people using for loop-based music. Thanks.

Cinescore was great. I'm surprised they did not continue with it.

Samplitude ( also by Magix ). I switched from Vegas and ACID to that and have been pretty happy. I have never used loops much, so you should try it out and see if it works for you, but overall Samplitude is probably the best DAW you can buy

I'll pass - once bitten twice shy. The Eula screams "ransomware":

Individual MAGIX Product licenses have to be validated periodically. This ensures that the original Software is being used and that it is being used according to the license terms and conditions. This requires an Internet connection.

Kit - it appears to me that "periodically" is actually "frequently". Even a minor Win10 update appears to result in a phone home to re-validate the license!

Well, if you want the best Samplitude is the one. I am sure there are a few other programs which would work just as well ( Cubase, Studio one maybe ). These days not difficult to find a good DAW. I would have stuck with Vegas , but started using MIDI drums so had to make a switch to ACID, but wanted something more and Samplitude just looked the best overall. Extras you get with suite version are excellent.

As for phoning home, I never noticed anything and I don't always have connection ON on my DAW laptop.

Only activated it right after installing it a few years ago and again when installing new version early this year( pro X 3 ). Updating windows did not cause any additional activation requests.

You don't get a request. It just happens silently.

I know, so basically who cares if it occasionally does this in the background.

And what happens if it can't connect,?Does it stop working or go wonky like Vegas? And what information does it send back when it phones home? I think users should care about software that won't work without an internet connection.
