Replacing Media and Markers

cocacolaman wrote on 3/4/2008, 12:26 PM
I replaced an mpeg2 file in DVDA 4.5 with a file with another name using the "replace media" function (I think that's what it's called...I don't have access to DVDA right now to confirm). No problem there. However, the original markers remained and were not replaced by the markers in the new file. I tried deleting the markers that were associated with the original file, but when I replaced that file the new markers were not loaded into DVDA. Does anyone know how I can replace both the media and the chapter markers in DVDA 4.5 without having to reenter the markers?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The solution is straight forward....replace the media, then hit the "Load Markers" icon.

When I hit load markers it does not work like earlier versions.

I now edit with Vegas 8 Pro. Again the load markers is not working.

Any ideas?

Thanks! James

James,

I was working with version 7d...unfortunately, Vegas 8 and my computer don't seem to get along well. Loading markers saved in 7d worked with no problem in DVDA 4.5.

Is it possible that you did not save the markers when you rendered your file in Vegas 8?

I recently ran into a similar situation. I wanted to use the same background and menu structure for a couple of DVDs that had similar content. I simply used the "replace media" function, prepared and burned a DVD with the new material.

Upon checking the disc, I found that the end was cut off one of the programs. Almost by accident, I noticed that the end marker on the timeline for that particular program was not at the end of the media. I hadn't even thought of it, but the start and end markers are automatically set when media is imported. But they're not moved when a replacement media file is specified. Simply clicking on the timeline moves the end marker to the proper position.

Gotta be careful!

Dear Peter,

I was out of the contry and then when I got back forget to check the forum.

No, the markers are in Sony Vegas Pro 8.0b.

Then I render an mpeg file.

DVD Arch used to automatically import the markers as chapter points. Now it does not, even when I "hit" load markers.

Something is off from what I can tell.

The same thing is happening to me too! But I think the problem lies with Vegas Pro refusing to store all the markers in the MPG file!

The markers are definately there in the project file, but when I load the outputed MPG into an empty project, only the first 4 markers are there, the remaining 50 are missing! ARGH! Problem number 146 to overcome.

I was wrong. Vegas is generating the markers. You just can't replace a short media clip with a larger one with more markers in it. No matter what you do, DVDA will not load the new markers (definate bug!). Instead of replacing media, insert the media and your markers will all be there.
