Replacing media within clips...

Hello, all...

This question pertains to Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0. Is it possible to replace media within an existing clip on the timeline? This is desirable if I want to use different footage, but preserve the original clip's length, effects, and other characteristics which may have been assigned to it.

I think this function is available in Vegas Pro, but I can't find it Movie Studio 11.0. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

You should find it in the Project Media pane, by right-clicking on the media file you wish to replace. All timeline events using that media will have the content replaced.

Thanks for your reply. I assume, then, that it is not possible to replace media on a clip-by-clip basis...at least, not in Movie Studio 11. Is this feature available in Movie Studio 12, or Vegas Pro?

An Event (what you are calling "clip") is a signpost to the media file. If you replace the media, all events using that media reflect the change. Replacing media this way is mainly for proxies and intermediates, rather than editing. Vegas Pro works no differently.

The best way to assign multiple media that you choose to individual events is by adding Takes from the project media to individual events. See the Help for complete instructions.

I appreciate this info, and clarification on terminology. (Clips versus Events) Lately, I'm working with both Movie Studio and Premiere Pro, and some of the differences get a little "disorienting".

Unless you're seeing a really good shrink, i don't recommend working in Vegas and Premiere in the same week . . .

Drag your media with a right mouse button and drop it on the target event.
Choose Add as Take

(in Vegas Pro it works 100%)

musicvid10: Yes, Vegas and Premiere certainly have their differences. All in all, I find myself preferring Vegas...it strikes me as far more intuitive.
