How do you transfer ownership of a product you are no longer using? I bought my Vegas 2.0 from Ebay, and the seller gave me a serial # with the disc & manual, and I registered it and used it for 2 years. I purchased Vegas 5.0 boxed, and want to sell my 2.0 version.
As long as you have never used the old licence from Vegas 2.0 to upgrade
to another version, you can easily transfer the license to a new user.
I am assuming you payed full price for Vegas 5 and did not upgrade from
your Vegas 2 license. If you did upgrade, the Vegas 2 serial number is
invalidated and can never be upgraded again.
I found an old version of Vegas Pro on eBay that had a valid, unupgraded
license for cheap and was able to use that to upgrade to Vegas 5 for $149.
You simply need to inform Sony of the name and address of the new owner
along with your contact information as well. You can phone or email, but it
might take a few days to get it worked out. In the end, Sony will invalidate the
old serial number and issue a new serial number to the new owner.
If your Vegas 2 is unupgraded, you should be able to sell it easily. Make sure
you advertise that they will qualify for the $199 ($149?) Vegas 5 upgrade price,
since they will be the proud owner of a legit Vegas serial number.
I am pretty impressed with Sony support. It took a few days after I sent in
the license transer info (working with the seller), but in the end I received
the response below. As I said, you will need to provide Sony with the
serial number (keep it secret!), and the buyer/seller info.
Be patient, it seems Sony has a fairly high volume of calls, hopefully
due to Vegas 5 selling like hotcakes!
Cheers,
Randy
