It kind of makes sense because Vegas resamples everything to fit into the project template, but it'd be useful sometimes if it didn't do that for stills.
Are you saying you want Vegas to maintain a frame of a certain size, say 720 x 480 and if a still image is smaller, say 360 x 240, you want the still image to float inside the frame (hopefully in the center) with a black frame around it rather than have Vegas fit the image to the full frame ? You can get this effect with pan/crop but you want to be able to find a setting in Vegas, something like "don't resize stills to fit the frame" ?
Not sure there is such a setting -- but maybe there could be a script to do this?
I looked in the Internal options but detect which setting might help.
No automatic way to do this that i've found. However, If you set the pan/crop height and width values to the size of the project frame in square pixels (for example, 654.54 x 480 for NTSC DV) and leave maintain aspect ratio and stretch to fill frame both at Yes, you will accomplish this.
Ok, got it - thanks guys, but how do I do this then:
If I have say 50 stills I want to make a slideshow of with some pan / crop / zoom effects with my Ultimate S3, the pictures always start out to fit the whole screen (720 x 576 f.ex.) and then starts to move arround from there.
Maybe I wanted the pictures to start in the middle with some space arround them so that I could see a frame f.ex. that I had put arround them. I can in the preview window, but after output on a TV it will be cut off.
If now Vegas would have been able to import without adjusting size, I could f.ex. have made my pics say 680 x 544 and they would have been in the middle with the space from 680 -> 720 as black so that the whole picture would show all the time, besides when zooming in of course.
I know I can make all this happen with the pan / crop tool directly in Vegas, but if there was a smarter way now that I have Ultimate S, it would be good.
