resizing video to fit youtube/myspace

hi guys (i posted this in architect forum as well),

i tried uploading a video file [vr_movie(01).mpg] to "myspacetv" from vegas 8 but the file was too large ( oh yeah, btw, i'm a newbie).

after shuffling through my manuals i noticed i can resize stuff using architect... here's where the problems start...

1) after i get my vid file from the window docking area explorer and it pops up in the workspace area, i can operate the resizing tool and change the height/width. but how do i change the overall MBs of the file? myspace says they can only take 100MBs.

2) how do i chang the resized video into video?... confusing, eh...
after i tried the resize, went through the "make dvd" steps and tried to upload to myspace again, i got an error message saying in essence "only video files can be used".

thanks for any help!

Two of the more compressed formats available in VMS is wmv or mpeg1. I've never used the mov format. So I don't know anything about it. WMV allows some adjustment of the the bitrate. It is my understanding that youtube uses the Flash format. And that any file uploaded will be converted into that format. Uploaded Flash files become viewable much quicker than other uploaded formats. Unfortunately VMS doesn't currently give the option to convert a video into a Flash file. You might want to look into Super to do that. It is a free program and allows alot of adjustment to the bitrate to maximize the bitrate for the length of the video. I would also suggest you get a bitrate calculator to let you know what the maximum bitrate you can use to keep within youtube requirements.

Some more information would help.

How long is the video?

Which type of mpg are you creating (mpg1 or mpg2)?
