[Resolved] Although x264vfw codec installed, still can't play file

Rich Parry wrote on 9/19/2020, 5:55 PM

Even though I have the x264vfw codec installed as recommended on this forum, VP18, VP17, VP13, Adobe After Effects, and MPC-HC will not play/display my AVI video files. Strangely VLC will display it although with a lot of stutter. I have spent an hour or more searching the web and this forum to avoid bothering anyone, but I give up. I know this is a routine topic, but I couldn't find a solution.

I am willing to install a codec to support this video file or transcode the video so this problem can be avoided in the future. Your help is appreciated.

Do you have the Cineform codec installed? Looks like a straight forward Cineform file to me that should be decoded without issue if the correct codec is installed. It has nothing to do with x264. You could also upload a sample so that it could be downloaded for test.

Works OK here in V18.

Here's a screengrab from VirtualDub that shows the cineform codec being used.

If you can find an older version of GoPro Studio, it also installs the Cineform codec (the newer Quik versions do not). If you don't have it or can't find it, I'll try to find mine and upload it for you.

Here's the file name: GoProStudioPC-2.5.9.2658.exe

And a link where you can download. https://www.techspot.com/downloads/6759-gopro-studio.html

Hopefully, that will solve your problem.

@wwaag

Yes, after installing GoProStudioPC as you suggested, VP18 now correctly loads and plays my .avi files.

Thank you,

Rich
