Resurrected that 3-D Cube Veg . . woah . . .

Putting 521 through its paces, I located the 3-D Cube veg over on the COW.

I sub-bed the Media for my own SD Footage; set Build RAM Renders to "STUN" on 1gb; changed-down through the gears to "Preview Full"; hit SHIFT-B.

Result: Took 90 seconds to SHIFT-B a perfect Preview at Preview Full.

OK, sure, only SD footage, but this is showing just WHAT maybe possible with my hardware. And yes, 521 was stable throughout.

I'm previewing now and for those that know that VEG - it is bonkers! - but it is mightily inspiring as to what one can do for creative viewing in VP11.

Cheers

Last time i played with that .veg it took several hours for Shift-B to do just the first frame.

You mean the the 3D box with checkered sides and the lid that opens?

I think I've still got that around somewhere, don't recall it was all that slow to render.

Also still got the old burning tree VEG, used it in part on the first paying job I did with Vegas.

ps, there's an AE project around that builds a 3D box the same way but with facets and rivets and texures. If you've got the time pretty easy to grab the concepts and do the same in Vegas.

No. I said SD footage, not genmeds.

The Veg has a cube of 6 sides and each side consists of 3 strips of video. That's like a total of 18 videos, all spinning on unison on the faces of a cube.

So, do you remember that one?

Maybe, really straining the grey cells...
I think I did see it but kind of thought, not hard to do, just take the original cube one and replace the GenMed with video, slice and dice if you want X strips of it.

Do you remember the Two Cats?

Bit of a trip down memory lane here. Those where the good old days :)

6 sided cube is soooooooooo 2008. The Vasst contest proved that!

:D

I don't remember Two Cats but I remember Pinto vs Assassin. Those were the days with Vegas 3 & 4. :)

Two Cats From One
Go back one level to Vegas throw-togethers to see a few more of his projects.

Anyway, playmates, before my reason gets suffocated under the weight of nostalgia, the reason I posted it was to indicate just how quick to Preview using RAM builds 521 has become. That, and my PC is responding nicely.

I don't remember these things taking that long to render.

Years ago someone uploaded an even more complex variation on the rotating cube and I used it for the opening to a collection of high school still photo montages. It looks a little lame seven years later, but FWIW, here is the ten-second intro:

I'm referring to SHIFT+B Preview. Is that what you are remembering? It was taking so long to get to Preview I was remembering not even bothering any further.

B521, with all its failings, is working great with Shift+B. Getting beyond the Creative decision, to move on, is essential.

Probably most of the improved performance is due more to much better hardware at your disposal now than 7 years ago. Vegas 4 might perform similarly if you were to install it.

Kelso, my thoughts too. And following on from that there maybe VP now makes more, or has always made more of the hardware that is at its disposal. Isn't that how it's always been?

When I've got time today I'll test the same veg in VP9 > VP10 > VP11. That could be enlightening?
