You can't - this is a function of the player. Stop means just that, stop. If you want to go back to the main menu, some players/remotes have a "menu" button that will take you back to the root menu.

My DVD player won't do that when I play a major movie DVD. If I press stop during playback, it does the same as if I had pressed Menu. If I press stop from the root menu, then it stops the DVD completely.

Really? Does anyone else have a player that does this? It sure seems unlikely that the stop button would do anything other than stop play. Are you sure?

Someone on the DMN forum lead me to the explanation. I use a Panasonic DVD-RV31. It does this for all movies I rent.

It appears like it's a feature specific to this player. I must always press stop twice to stop the DVD completely.

I know the menu button is there for that purpose. I was trying to reproduce this thinking it was the same for all players.

Thanks!

On several of my players, stop won't take you back to the main menu but, unless you pressed stop twice, you can continue viewing the disk from the same point in time as when you hit stop just by pressing play again.
