Reverse Rewind Problem

Sonichroch wrote on 12/30/2003, 6:03 AM
1 Tittle, Any Chapters, Menu
When I rewind back, video any time goes normal back, then jump over any chapters to begin, again any time normal, then jump to the chapter from which has been started reverse and the situation repeats. Every this new loop is nearer to begin and after 5 or 6 loops finishes at tittle begin and begins play.
When I make DVD without Menu, all works good.
Testing on DVD Players: Maxton 670, Mascom 450, Daewoo 9000S

I think the issue is that thou speaketh a language with which we are not familiar.

Write longhand, check your spelling, switch to decaf, try again, but slower this time.

Create video with Menu, 1 Title and several Chapters, burn out on DVD. Spooling out on DVD Player. Instance: Spooling out Chapter 6.Depression FAST BACK (<<-).Sometime video act towards starts. Then jump for example somewhere into Chapter 3, sometime act towards starts. Then jump back on Chapter 6, but on lower time, beyond at depression FAST BACK(<<-). Again sometime act towards starts. Then jump for example into Chapter 2 and several seconds act towards starts. Then again jump on Chapter 6. This loop with step by step dragging towards starts Title. Elapsed Time on display shows confused appreciate. It would be better graphic display.
Rub out Menu, markers on Chapters I will let. In Chapter 6 compress FAST BACK. Video act proportional to starts, just as has.

I think he is saying that he has a DVD with multiple chapter points. In this case, he happens to be playing back in chapter 6. At some point during chapter 6's playback, he hits the rewind button on the remote. The DVD then starts going backwards properly UNTIL it gets to the chapter 6 marker. At that point, it jumps to somewhere in chapter 3 instead of continuing at the end of chapter 5.

I, too, have seen this happen on my Apex. I must admit that I have not fully tested this problem and that when I saw it happen, the version used was 1.0. I do not know if this still occurs with 1.0c or if it is easily reproducable.

DVD Architect 1.0, 1.0c, 1.0d. Video from 10 min to 1 hour long, only 3 chapters or 30 - same result.

Using "rewind" to go backwards through chapter points does all sorts of strange things with many different authoring programs. I have also seen problems with commercial DVDs. I also presume that the problem manifests itself quite differently depending on the player used.

Sony should use this as one of the tests for "compatibility" when testing the next release of DVDA, not because it is hugely important in the overall scheme of things, but because I think it probably is a good proxy for testing the navigation logic.
