ridata dvd-r's not working

I was told that ridata were some of the best dvd-r's to get. I bought a spool of 50. I get a weird error when I try to burn to them from dvd architect, or even my sonic software that came with me sony dru-530a dvd burner. The software gets half way through the lead in and I get this error, "The drive couldn't determine the power for writing this disc." When using sonic I get this error, "there was a problme writing to the disc" and this is the advanced stuff

Sense: 03 ASC: 73 ASCQ: 03 (Command 2A)
-------------------------------------------------------
Px.dll: 1.6.16.500

Do these great discs not work in my yet greater sony dvd burner? Or is there some sneaky way to get these discs to work.

Please help..

Thanks

I am using Ritek +R disks and have had no problems.

You may have gotten a bad batch, which I have heard of happening.

Not all drives have perfect compatibility with all media. You may want to look for a firmware update for your drive before you do anything else. Failing that, I would consider getting a more common brand. Good brands include Verbatim Datalife Plus, MAM-A Gold Archive, Ritek G04, and basically most "Made in Japan" name brand media. Some of these generic spindles are hit-and-miss in terms of quality, compatibility and longevity, so be careful.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the 530 drive has a tarnished reputation. I don't know if it could be the cause of your problems, but do a search on this board. Some reviewer a few months back said it performed poorly in some tests.

I had the same problem on one spindle of Verbatim 4X (+R) and an NEC burner. Slowed the write speed down to 2.4X and they worked fine.

Had the same problem. Had to slow the speed down to 1x. Not happy with the Sony drives....
