I posted a question about a different topic and in one of the
answers, someone wrote,

"You can replace any piece of media with any other piece of media by right clicking on the event. "

How do you do this? Are keyframes preserved from the innitial
event? In other words, if I keyframe clip a to add motion and then
"right click" to replace the clip, are the keyframes added to the
new clip? How do you make this happen?

Thank you....

The keyframes are on the timeline. If you replace the media, the keyframes will still be there.

By the way, if media is on the timeline, it is an event. Not a clip.

right click in project media, if you right click in the timeline you get the option to show in project media... then right click on that to replace, don't know about keys staying or how its going to match up a trimmed clip

Another option that definitely preserves markers and effects and such is to use takes. Right-mouse drag the new clip on top of the existing event on the timeline. Now both the old and the new clip fill the same space. You can use T to toggle through the clips and select which one Vegas uses. If the new clip is longer than the event you can Alt-drag the clip left or right to choose which trimmed section of it to use within the event's duration. This is a fast and nifty way to see what the project would look like with multiple choices in that one event. You can even toggle while preview is playing.

THANKS!!! I've wondered how to do this and have been unable to locate the procedure in the Help files.

Chienworks is right on the money. When you Drag Media to an existing Event, it CAN be added as a "Take" - hence hitting the "T" key to move/rotate through all the Takes you have AT THAT POSITION - very very useful for Video but can be essential for any audio you are doing. Think about v/o takes? - marvellous!

Grazie
