RIP Dell 2405, Dell 2407 ?????

So there's many posts about the new 2407, all dissing it but they're all based on one or two reviews in Japan, crudely translated into Jinglish.
Anyone here bought one or read any real reviews that might relate to using it for video?
If not the Dell then the Samsung 244T gets good press and further up the scale is the Eizo but they're getting rather pricey.
The Sony is a no go, only DVI inputs.

Sort of a shameless bump.
It seems Dell down under have found some more 2405s.
But here's (I think) the funny part. I looked at a photo of the 'horrid' looking 2407 and at first glance it looks like it's got some sort of horrible banding going on, well until you look at the photo full screen, what's being called 'banding' seems to be aliasing between the pixels on the LCD being photographed, the CCDs in the camera and the pixels in the monitor displaying the image.

Not saying that there isn't a problem but it does make you wonder about the value of 95% of what you can read on the web (this forum excepted).

as I understand it, the biggest difference is the 2407 includes an HDCP connector, so you could watch HD content from a HD dvd player or HD drive in your computer years later when that's commonplace.

I have two 2405's and they are fantastic...an amazing image, especially for the price. Pick it up on sale for $800 from time to time. Five years down the road when HDCP is commonplace, if you need it pick up a 2409 or whatever they're on!

OK,
well the 2407 arrived and today I hooked it up next to our 24" HP.

The good news:

Does 16:9 HD correctly, after you tell it to in the menu.
Black thin bezel is a definate plus,
It's certainly razor sharp, more so than the HP.
Unit LOOKS very nice.

The bad news:
Full screen B&W horizontal gradient shows noticeable banding, not horrendously bad but if you know to look for it, it's there. Drag the same image over to the HP, perfect.
A RGB diagonal gradient has bad banding in the transition areas, it's very noticeable, I doubt anyone would miss it.
Screen illumination is noticeably uneven, upper LH corner is brighter.

With normal video on the unit none of the above is noticable but I'd sure think it'd drive anyone working with stills nuts.

I believe Dell may have a fix for the banding issues so next week I'll pester them for a swap. I could just return the unit but I do like it overall. I could live with it, using this one for the Vegas T/L and buy another (when they fix the issues) for the preview monitor.
