I am new to this, but plan to use Vegas Movie Studio+DVD to author a DVD of old home movies. The movies were long ago transferred from Super8 to one long program on VHS, which I subsequently transferred to DVD-R when I got my Panasonic set-top DVD recorder. This is the only copy I have now of this video collection, and it is one big program with no chapters, etc. (The reason I want to remake the DVD now is that the episodes are all out of order and cannot currently be accessed without fast forwarding through the whole DVD; just adding a menu will be a great improvement).
Sony Media says that Movie Studio cannot rip or otherwise get the video & audio from my home-recorded DVD, and that I need to use another application (unspecified) to do this. Since I don't have a DVD player where my computer is, I prefer to not use a hardware capture device, and my computer's slots are full (no FireWire card can be installed).
Any advice on how to get the contents of my DVD into the computer hard drive using only the computer's DVD drive and some software?
