Rollback to Vegas 9.0 (link) from 9.0a

I have been a loyal Vegas user for many many years, since Vegas 3. I have edited professionally on FCP, AVID and Adobe over the years, but always end up going back to Vegas to fix some kind of shortcoming with the other platforms.

I have been pushing Vegas to take over the editing world and they can, however:

It kills me to find several major problems with 9.0a stopping people in their tracks where they can't finish their jobs. We can't "take over the world" with productivity stopping in its tracks like this.

Here is the link to other versions of Vegas, specifically Vegas 9.0

Uninstall 9.0a, scroll down and download 9.0 and register that. Your serial number will be fine 9.0 and any 9.0x.

Why Sony won't release the old install file, boggles me.

I can totally understand mistakes can been made. Sony had a bad release. I have been through at least nine updates that didn't have any mistakes.

But leaving customers in the dust to wait for a 9.0b fix is completely weird.

Rollback, keep busy. Sony get to work.

What you should also consider is that even if this is possible, do you want back the bugs that were fixed within VP9? Only a thought . . . .

Good point. But at least people can start editing again without text reverting back and blurred photos rotated at 45 degrees.

I should add, be careful. You may not be able to open a 9.0a .veg in a Vegas 9.0 program. You will have to mix down and/or start over. But your text was gone anyway right ??

I'd like to pretend 9.0a hasn't happened yet...Though you're right 9.0a did resolve some big issues for some platforms.

I have recently done just this, and confirm that a 9.0a project opened in 9.0 ok.

In V9.0a, apart from several random red thumbnails and preview, I had just ONE text item out of dozens that spontaneously reverted to it's original form - not Sample Text, but one of my own presets that I had saved years ago.

I am now working nervously, hoping that 9.0b won't be long ...

I tried copy/pasting events from V9 into V8 without luck - V8 just crashed and disappeared.

the reason they don't link to the old updates from the updates section is to avoid confusion. The "average user" downloads what's there & that's it, they don't really know what it is. I've seen it many times where people download wrong updates & then complain of broken things that were fixed.

what would make more sense is a 9.0b that fixes anything that's been fixed since a was released & reverts everything else back to 9.0 release that isn't. Could mean feature loss but oh well, if it works better then that's good!

You didn't save your 9.0 download file? Why not? I've got every Vegas/Acid/Sound Forge/DVD Architect/Cinescore/etc. update, point release, and patch since i first started using them saved in my "download" folder as well as backed up on DVD-Rs with copies of all my serial numbers, order numbers, manuals, SCS email correspondence, etc. I'm always amazed at the number of people who don't do that.

I too have every release file, update and book safely stored away in multiple locations. I can get the serial number on my account from Sony here but I have them all as well. I do this for ALL software.

I purchased my upgrade on 8/1 /09 and followed the download software link in my email - it was for version 9.0a and didn't give me the option to select 9.0.

Can I uninstall 9.0a and use the link mentioned above to download and install 9.0?

Aside from any specific issues related to v9.0, will doing this cause me any grief when registering the software/using my serial number?

Thank you

Yes.

No.

You're right Friar...I agree, "keep it simple".

I too keep every version backed up...

I am more worried about people like jmeredith, who purchased 9.0a and are left to make first judgments and hung to dry....
