Rollover-Image Type Button? Help!

Hello!
I am trying desperately to create a rollover-type image for a DVD menu.
I basically need it to look like a light is shining on a curtain (the curtain is the background). I have tried but cannot figure out how to do this. There appears to be a way with a PSD file in which you completely create the entire menu in layers then import it, so I am trying that, but it's kind of confusing for me and I cannot find any good tutorials!

If you have a solution of a good tutorial on the layer method, please share!!
And the image that shows once selected can't be limited to a single color, it really needs to be an image with depth and multiple colors for this project.

Thank you so much!!

i found the online help to be perfect for figuring out how the psd layers in DVDA worked.

but you can't do what you're wanting. you can only do highlights. if you want it to "shine" then you need to have the highlight be a shine-like color. IE white-ish.

For "multi-color" highlights, you are limited to basic colors (and only about 3 diff colors). You have to change the highlight to "Color Channel" in order to get the "multi-colored" highlights (and again, it's just basic colors -- nothing like what you probably need).

You could try the "Inverse Selection" trick -- do a search on this forum to find a discussion on how that's done...

One way is to use a darkening highlight.

The other uses multiple images and Auto Activate buttons............

In Vegas place your curtain as track one. Add Sony Light Rays FX
with spotlight template. Move the light to the left.

Use the preview screen capture button and save image.
Move spotlight to right. Take another screen capture.

Back to DVDA...
Create two (or more) menus. First menu use the spot light on left image
as the background. Add two buttons. The left button will NOT be auto activate
use it normally to play your scene. The other button will be auto activate
and directs you to the second menu. Use the image with spot light on the
right as your background. Duplicate button positions. Make the second button the default button. It will play your second scene.
The first button (on the left) will be auto activate and directs you to the first menu.
