rookie needs help - recording with tascam us-122 in Vegas

I'm new and running vegas 4.0 and recently purchased a Tascam us-122. I'm trying to record an audio track in vegas, in order to ultimately do a voiceover on a dvd. The volume (db) registers my voice, but no sound is recorded, even when I tap the microphone.
If this has been covered or is covered in the literature please direct me.
Thanks in advance.

Are you saying you clicked the Record button in the track header, spoke/tapped the mic and you see activity in the track record meter?

If so, did you then click the Record button in the transport?

Yes. I clicked the record button on the track header, then clicked the record button just below the timeline. When speaking or tapping the mic the db scale in the track header registers the sound, but none is recorded on the track.

At what level is the track meter reading when you're recording? Are you sure you're getting enough signal? Try to get a fairly consistent level with a vocal or other instrument with the meter reading between -12 and -6 db.

Did the timeline progress with a waveform that was near normalized? Did it fill the track height?

Did you save the sound file or delete it?
