Running Processes in 2000 MSDN

ok, so i love the defrag thread, but i want to ask about running processes.
i would like to know what i can do to limit my processes down to as few as possible, so when i do vegas rendering its not having to worry about them.
i have already removed all my network hardware and interlnet processes (i think)
i would like to see what else i can disable.
as i say with my pump'n system it took 15 hours to render about 50 gig to a 36 minute video.
as raw avi!
there has to be something. ive tried putting vegas as realtime priority (not very good results)
and all it did was get slower.

what can i do?
i know about "hardware" profiles and processes and all that, but dont know what the hundreds of windows processes are for.

goodnight everyone,
enjoy the buffet

Feral,
I use Enditall, only because it saves me from making an "Ooops" when selecting background processes to end. Just run it before opening Vegas, it works like a charm.
You can find it free all over the net.

i've never found closing "extra" processes a problem when rendering with vegas (or any time difference). The only exception has been if i'm using another program at the same time as vegas is rendering.

I've got Mcafee 6, Valve's STEAM, openoffice.org quickstarter, weatherbug, asusprobe, spybot tea timer, and the epson stylus r200 monitor running & don't notice any difference with them terminated.

You do know that raw AVI is really slow & hardware speed dependant, right?

I grabbed the following from the Support section some time ago. Hope it helps.

Mike

Close all background applications. This is not limited to the
programs that show in the system tray. Do a ctrl+alt+del and end
task or process on as many applications as you can, leaving only
Explorer and Systray for 98 or ME. For Windows 2000 and XP
move over to the Processes Tab and click the "Image Name"
heading at the top of this window twice, you would be able to view
these items by alphabetical order. For Windows 2000, you should
only have:

explorer.exe
lsass.exe
mapisp32.exe
mstask.exe
services.exe
smss.exe
spoolsv.exe
stisvc.exe
svchost.exe
system
system idle process
taskmgr.exe
winlogon.exe
winmgmt.exe

For Windows XP, you will only need next to your user name:

explorer.exe
taskmgr.exe

Next to "system":
csrss.exe
lsass.exe
mspmspv.exe
services.exe
smss.exe
spoolsv.exe
svchost.exe
system
system idle process
winlogon.exe
