Running slow and choppy

I have just finished editing a 2.30 video clip using photographs. However, after rendering as an AVI file it runs very slow and the music is jitters. I have noted the advice on turning on DMA. However, I’m not sure how to do it. Help would be appreciated.
I have already tried to get help from manuals without success.

You can enable DMA in Windows 98 by doing the following:

-Right click on 'My Computer' and select properties.

-Click on the device manager tab and expand 'Disk Drives'.

-Right click on your hard drive and select properties.

-Go to the 'Settings' tab and check the 'Enable DMA' checkbox. You'll then be prompted to restart.
