running Vegas on a Mac

chrisconleyradio wrote on 7/16/2006, 9:16 AM
Now that the Macs are coming out with both operating systems, I'm considering going Mac for a variety of reasons. But, the big priority is that it runs Vegas flawlessly. Has anyone tried this yet? What degree of success/failure have you experienced?

What red flags would you have about running Vegas on a Mac?

Thanks for your help

I did not do it myself so can't comment, but some people on the forum did it and they said it worked well. There is really no reason it wouldn't work well. Apple provided Windows drivers and the machines are no different from a normal PC...

I might go the same route for my next computer also, might take a while though as I bought a laptop just before the MacBook Pros were released...

I've got a MacBook Pro that I'm running Vegas on. I have a dedicated studio PC that I do most of my editing on but for mobile stuff, I'm strictly with the MacBook Pro at this time. No problems yet and my experience is that XP runs better on this machine than on my PC anyhow. HDV render test was smoking compared to most dual core pc's that were running the same test too. I absolutely love the machine.

Cheno : does the built-in camera work in XP ?

Thanks

Cheno - what is the hardware you are running? Are you talking about the HDV rendertest that DSE posted on VASST in late 2005? What was your render time on it?

Nat,

To be honest I haven't tried the cam in XP mode. I'll test it out and get back to you on that one. Unless I'm editing, I'm solely on the mac side anyway.. so it hasn't been a necessity for me yet.

Jayster,

I'm running the 2.0 core duo, 128meg video, 1 gig ram. Ran one test to the sytem drive (5400 sata) and the second to an external firewire drive (7200 ide) - the system drive test ran about 2 seconds faster. The render test was the Nov. 26, '05 test that DSE posted.

Render times were - 41:01 to system drive
44:43 to the firewire external drive

hope that helps.

Cheno,

No latency lag issues with the Mac? That is my biggest bug about the PC (all the things necessary that hog resources). The video and audio in big projects move along pretty seamlessly?

thanks for the info so far.

I'm not sure about the kind of latency that your'e referring to but it has not only outperformed my old P4 3.0 laptop that I was using but is running at least as fast, if not faster than my dual 3.0 xeon machine with 2 gigs of ram.

LIke I said, I'm only running Vegas on the PC side - everything else I'm doing on the mac side so I may not be running it like you're needing so......

I have not run HDV footage yet through it, only SD stuff and the HDV render test, but I've heard elsewhere on this forum, I think through Glen Elliot that HDV is running very well on it.

"I'll test it out and get back to you on that one."

Thanks, no hurry on that one though, I'm just curious to see if all the devices are supported.

Spot and Cheno
I've posted a couple of threads on Vegas 7 and Intel Macs as I am having serious problems trying to install Vegas 7 on a new Mac Pro with Boot Camp and XP Pro .Net1.1 and.Net 2.0 installed. So far they haven't raised even a single comment let alone any help.

Sony Tech Support replied indicating they couldn't offer support for Vegas on a Mac so I'm now officially in no man's land.

I've installed Vegas 6d bt when I try to install Vegas 7a it hangs at 'Registering Modules' every time and I just can't get past that point.
I'd rather not reinstall Windows from scratch but that is becoming my next alternative as nothing else seems to work and I suspect there's a problem with the XP install though all of my other software, inclusding PT LE 7.1 installed under XP and are still running.

All I'd like to hear is that someone out there has successfully installed it on a Mac, under XP of course, if that's the case I'll reinstall XP and start again on the install of Vegas 7.

Well I answered my questions on Vegas 7 on a Mac Pro myself by reinstalling Windows XP.
There was obviously something amiss with the installation because Vegas 7 is now installed... and I'm off to bed .. yawn!!!!

Thanks for thinking about helping

Please post and let us know what SCRIPTS & PLUG-INs you have that work & don't work with the Mac.
