s video out on my graphics card

can this port be used to hook up a TV for better monitoring of Video? I am using a NEC 19" flatscreen and have noticed when I use my bright and contrast adjustments in V4 and then render the MPG file plays back darker than the preview in V4 showed it to be after the adjustement.

Im wondering if using this Svideo will help?

Anyone got some suggestions?

Most TVs and PC monitors are different beasts, and video will not look the same on either. It can get quite complicated, so rather then get into all the why's... It's best to check your playback on a TV (assuming that's where your rendered proj is headed). Within Vegas this can be done with a firewire hookup - not with your graphics card video out. Using your video out, your TV will generally show the same thing as your PC monitor, so full screen playback should give you an idea of what your video will look like. And you'll want to try out the various tools in Vegas related to NTSC or PAL color.

so what do I hook up firewire? I have my dv953 hooked up to my firewire port. I do have 2 ports though.

Use your camcorder as a pass thru device. For example, camcorder connected to computer via firewire and an external TV monitor connected to the camcorder via the S-video connection or composite connection.

Some camcorders won't work as a pass thru device.

I've got an ATI Radeon7500 with TV out. I use my TV to monitor my video playback so I get a better idea of how my finished video will look. (As was mentioned above, computer monitors and TV's are very different.) Your video card needs to support multiple monitors (one of which could be a TV). Set the TV up in the video system settings as your second monitor (make sure to adjust resolution to at least 1024X768) and make sure to check "extend my desktop across both monitors." Then drag the Vegas preview window across to the television. Play with the window size. I get near full screen playback (even with a couple of effects running) without the hassle of setting up my camera and hoping the firewire connection will keep up.

You'll get a much higher framerate with the graphics card s-video output than you will with the OHCI ext. monitor setup. Adjusting your video card settings will allow you to get your output really close to what the "real" signal is (OHCI ext. monitor).
But, you won't get an interlaced signal from your video card. Some say the matrox cards will, don't really know. Things like stills, high contrast graphics, speed adjustments and scaling won't flicker with your video cards output. This is the reason I use both. I have an S-video switch box that lets me bounce from each signal. Most of my editing is via the graphics card. Flicker checks and color adjustments I do with the ext. monitor signal. BTW, only the preview quality settings of "good & best" will produce an interlaced signal via the ext. monitor output for anything that gets "recompressed". IE, speed adjustments, stills, scaling, ect.

Cheers,
