Been doing some testing of the S3D output of Vegas10 from the timeline.
I'm using source material that is 1920x1080 24p (23.976). I've been outputting in both Side-by-Side and Over-Under modes in both half and full resolutions direct from the timeline for testing purposes. Output is MPEG2 to a standard DVD in Blu-ray format.
I've been getting a slight flickering when the S3D discs are played back on a Sony 3D Blu-Ray player hooked to a Sony LED 3D Monitor. This occurs when burning in Side-by-Side (Half) or Over-Under (Half) modes. The player does not recognize Side-by-Side (Full) or Over-Under (Full) modes (i.e., it will not display a stereoscopic image).
(BTW, The S3D discs return an "incompatible" error when placed in a Panasonic 3D Blu-ray player, and while they are recognized when played in a Samsung 3D Blu-ray player the playback is unacceptable - chugging through the playback in a halting-hesitant manner.)
Anyone have any idea why the slight flickering is occurring? Is this due to the Half resolution mode? Is the Full resolution mode offered in Vegas10 comparable to the S3D Blu-Ray spec for full resolution that sends two 1080p frames, one for right and one for left, but only uses about 150% of the space of a single 1080p frame? If so, why does the Sony player fail to recognize discs burned in this format (when I say "fails to recognize," I mean that the disc can be read, but it fails to display a stereoscopic image - instead displaying the side-by-side image in 2D with black bars top and bottom)?
Hollywood-created S3D discs look rock steady (i.e., no flickering) using the same Sony based playback and monitoring equipment. I assume they are using a full resolution spec.
The stereoscopic effect is very good on these Vegas 10 S3D discs, however the slight flickering is problematic. Hoping to solve the problem by making some adjustments to Vegas10 settings. Anyone know what is causing the flickering issue and how to solve it? Thanks.
