Safe editing mode

In Vegas it is very easy to move/scale an event on the timeline with the mouse.
Sometimes too easy I think. When working with lots of small event it would
safer it I could turn on a "safe editing" mode, where you need to press, lets say
the "Windows" button (between CTRL and ALT) and use your mouse to move or scale
events. Or is this already possible?

If you make a mistake, just use the undo button. Undo isn't limited to the last action either. You can undo back and back and back some more. You can also increase the undo level if the default isn't enough for you. Me being a certified nitpicker, I frequently makes 4-5-6 changes, look at the changes for a few seconds then say %#$% and hit the undo button a few times. <wink>

Billy makes a great suggestion. But - if it is a bunch of hurdles you want to jump over so you don't "accidently" modify something on the timeline - lock the event.

That way - you have to go out of your way to unlock it to move it to go out of your way to lock it again only to go out of your way to unlock it if you want to modify it again. Then, of course, go out of your way to relock it again.

Undo is easier.

But, I have done that in the past where I had so many minute events that I accidently moved one. It helps keep me on my toes though.

There is an art to working with your events just as it is in knowing how to do things in the application. I look at it as a way to help force me to be a little more organized and make well though out movements.

That's my $0.02.

Ooh... I forgot about lock. Good suggestion too kameronj. If you want to 'lock things up' and you work left to right through the timeline and not jump around, to save time you can click on the leftmost event you are unsure about, select 'select events to end' then apply the lock switch and everything to the end of your project gets locked making it harder for you to mess it up by mistake. You can unlock a whole bunch of events the same way.

thanks
Locking events works yes, perhaps a "unlock" button would be nice then
instead of rightclicking-selecet unlock for every small event you want to change.
