Sample Rate Initialization

There appears to be a bug with the default setting of the sample rate.
When I have the default prperties set to have a sample rate of 48,000 per second, and I first start a project and import a .wav file that has been created at 48kHz and I have the Ruler Format set to Samples it brings the file in as if it thinks it is a 44,100 (fewer samples). To fix the problem you have to go into File Properties and under Audio Properties change the sample rate from 48000 to something else (i.e. 32000) and then reselect 48000 and apply it.

This was a known issue in earlier releases of Vegas 5.0, but has subsequently been fixed. What version of Vegas are you using?

When a 48KHz file is imported into a 44.1KHz project, the files are re-sampled so that they play back at the correct speed. So, a 48KHz file would be down-sampled to 44.1KHz (and therefor the number of samples that are displayed on the timeline would be smaller).

My guess is that your project settings are not actually at 48KHz when you start up Vegas.

You might try re-settings your default Preferences. You can do this by holding Ctrl-Shift down simultaneously while starting vegas. Bear in mind though, that this will erase your current preferences - if they are different from the default settings.

After re-setting the default preferences, try your steps again.

Thanks for the info.

I am using version 4.0e build 239.

p.s. I had tried to reset back to factory defaults and then re-apply the 48 Khz default, but it did not work. I will try again with version 5.0 when I get it.
