Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra video files

pioneer109 wrote on 4/30/2022, 7:20 AM

Good afternoon. Hope this is Ok to post this question in the video forum, if not please forgive me. I have a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and sadly the only lead that came with the phone is only a charging lead. At the moment the only way I can see to use my files in Vegas Post19 is to upload then from my phone into my google drive and download them from there onto my SSD for use within the program. I am in my mid 70's and have looked on Amazon UK for a suitable USB lead but am confused at the moment. Some seem to be advertised as data transfer but when you read the reviews it would appear not to be. Does any member in here have this model and do they use a USB data transfer cable? If so could you point me in the right direction please? Thank you John

@pioneer109 hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S21, what you want is USB type A to USB Type C, it'll look the same as the charging lead you already have tho, USB type A plugs into the thing that goes in the plug socket & Type C is what plugs in your phone, just plug Type A into your computer USB slot, it'll also charge your phone as well as let you access your videos/pictures

This should really be in the Off Topic section,

USB connectivity over the years has become a minefield of technological differences (data, power, external display and so on) that it is without doubt confusing. Only today, I was exploring the differences between USB-C and 3 with Thunderbolt because a new small computer I am considering getting for overseas travel (yes, overseas travel is actually happening again) has Thunderbolt rather than a USB named connection.

My recent model Samsung phone has an USB-C connection as it seems as does your phone (from Samsung's product website). The advantage of USB-C is that the plug can be inserted in either vertical direction:

So one end of an USB cable needs to have this USB connector (as long as you confirm that your phone has this connector). Then it just a matter of looking at which connector your computer has. If it is a recent model computer, it is likely that it will also have an USB-C connector - so you'll just need to buy an USB-C to USB-C cable in the length that is most convenient to you.

On the other hand, if your computer is a much older model, it may only have an USB-2 or USB-3 connector, 3 being distinguishable by having a blue plastic component of the plug and socket. USB-3 plugs into USB-2 and vice-versa without a problem. If this is the case, purchase an USB-C to USB-2 or USB-3 cable both of which are readily available.

I'm not sure that you need you need to go to an online shop which possibly comes with shipping costs if you have a computer shop, computer retailer or a technology department of a department store readily accessible near you. These cables are not expensive.

Once the cable connections have been identified, it's then simply a matter of connecting the phone to your computer (assuming that it's a PC and not an Apple the latter of which I have no practical knowledge about) and then using Windows Explorer to copy/paste your video/audio from the phone to your computer. To do so, any password/PIN on your phone first needs to be activated.

Despite all the techo/marketing jargon, all of these cables are going to transfer data, the weakest connectivity link (plug/socket and associated technology) in the chain only limits the transfer speed.

Good afternoon GiD. Thanks for your help getting this sorted. Update......After receiving my cable and transferring files I have since discovered there was an App "Link to windows" between my Samsung Phone and Windows which I installed and found that I could use my phone on the windows PC and transfer the files anyway. Did not know if you were aware of this. Cheers John

@pioneer109 Hi yes, I rebooted by Windows last yr & haven't installed that App again, I film my work which often consists of 20, 30, 50GB+ of data, the App just seemed like another step that wasn't necessary, I plug in my phone & transfer to a folder, I think on that App there might be a WiFi or Bluetooth option, with size of files i'm transferring that would take ages & with wireless there's always the chance of an error or lost file, Glad you got it sorted tho 👍
