Satish's Frameserve Solves PI!

I was having a problem with an AVI not good for ParticleIllusion . . this no good .. that no good . . y'know all the normal stuff .. AH! Satish!!

Well, dropped back my Audio to 44.1 and did a Frameserve OUT from the Vegas Project; picked this up in PI and voila! I now have my AVI as a "moving" scrolling B/G within PI.

. . phew . . .

"Frameserve" a BIG solution-achiever! Try it you might like it . .

All I got to do, is to remember this IN the future . ..

i dunno why u dont just render out your clip as an uncompressed file then jsut import that...?

PI is picky about the AVIs thrown in it, but if its uncompresed, it will work..

. .er . .'cos I didn't know that? Maybe that's why?

BIG thank you for the help. I have also received some "private emails" along the same lines.

However, FrameServe means I don;t have to render out anything. It just serves up the frames of an EVEN unrendered project directly into PI - now THAT'S the bonus - yeah? AND I don't have to wait for a completed LARGE uncompressed AVI - its just there!

. . ps: Thank you ALISTAIR!!!

If you want a very simple way to solve PI, try this: 355/113. It's not entirely accurate, but it's good out to 6 decimal places. I don't think you'll ever need more accuracy than that for video editing.

Is that rendered or unrendered uncompressed?

I think I've had success rendering in Vegas to the Huffy UV codec as well as uncompressed with Particle Illusion. It really doesn't like the DV codec.

Space and time.

I use the Frameserver all the time, and it is a HUGE benefit. I just finished a 2 1/2 project last night that was rendered, via Frameserver, to an external rendering chain. This would be over 150 GBytes, and that's a lot of space to have lying around.

In addition, I would have had to do the render to uncompressed, and then get up in the middle of the night to open that file in my render chain (AVISynth scripts) to actually start the render.

Rendering to uncompressed video is equivalent in terms of quality, but is definitely NOT equivalent in terms of convenience and speed.

if i knew the project was THAT indepth, i woulda kept my mouth shut.. lol

but for simple clips where you jsut have one or two scenes, rendering out (to me anyway) is easier.. then again PI is only used for wow factor in most of the stuff i do, and i have 2TB here, so storage isnt an issue..
Sorry to be a pest, but i just thought that rendering to uncompressed would save having to deal with the rigmoral or frameserving

eitehr way ill shut up now

DJP! Come back!!!

As John points out, the workflow convenience side of this FS is amazing. But for me, I can assembly and effect - Vegas still being thought over - and into PI - PI still being thought through too - gives me a real option to play with the effects BEFORE I settle on a final deal. FrameServe provides flexibility in the creative options side of things - yeah?

Wow, that would change things (although HDV eats it up pretty fast).

Actually, I have six externals at almost 200 MB each, plus what I have on my main drives, so I guess I'm over half-way there. I just can't pass up these cheap drives (just got a new 80 GB for $9.95).

I have come to love Frameserve. It fast-tracks me on adding Sonicfire Pro music .wav files to video tracks in Vegas.

LOL yeah well thats the thing, these days HDD are so cheap its crazy :)

One thing about externals though, is that ive lost quite afew when teh MBRs arent updated or gt corrupted, so "GETDATABACK" has been a lifesaver on many occasions. Since going to USB2 though, i havent had this issue
Now though, im running a PCI Raid card with 4 mounted drives, then the MoboItself running another 3 drives, but with these theyre all removable drives, and ive got afew more racks with HDD in there so theres always a chain of storage plus backup drives in case of failure (knock on wood)
