Just wanted to let you know that I am just finishing up a DVD that contains 1 hour and 55 minutes of video, plus a 2-channel AC-3 soundtrack. To get this much material I needed to encode VBR MPEG2 at about 5Mb/sec, which is getting into dangerous territory.
The video is of a spectacular choir performance, shot indoors, and the video thus has a moderate amount of video noise. I've learned in the past that video noise just kills MPEG2 encoders (the encoder is forced to work so hard that the resulting video is full of artifacts). So this time, I ran all my finished avi masters through the "Smart Smoother" filter via your plugin.
Using the default settings, video noise was moderately reduced without affecting detail much. But to my MPEG2 encoder (CinemaCraft) the filter made a huge difference. Q went from 12 to 9, which is a noticeable visual improvement. The DVD looks very clean, and makes me muse about stuffing 3 hours on a DVD-5 for the next project...
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that your programming efforts were very much appreciated here.
