"Save As" Files - Space Considerations

Bit Of Byte wrote on 8/10/2005, 12:19 PM
HI Team!

People use "save as" when a point is reached in editing as sequential separate files (1,2,3 etc) for as many times as liked.
That way, the original and the latest edited version(s) exist - in case of FORCE MAJURE.

If this is done, what consideration is given to space on HDD?
These files are pretty huge and when replicated/cut, are we not decreasing size on HDD and hence reducing HDD effectiveness to render/edit/etc. these files?

What are peoples' thoughts?

That is the reason for having mutliple large drives.

You cannot afford to be stingy with drive space when you are working with video.

Doing "Save-As" simply creates a new copy of the Veg file.... which are tiny in comparison to video.

You can also check the box which says "Copy and trim media". In which case it wll create copies of all the media used and trim the video clips to approximately just the segments used in the project. But.... you didn't mention you are doing this. Are you?

Anyway (as is normal it seems)... I don't think I am quite getting what you are asking.

Thanks guys - No 'copy and trim media' yet - how do i find that..?

Yes, it does seem I asking silly questions - as normal.

Thanks

When you do "Save As" there is another little check box there "Copy and trim media". That's where it is.

And... a question is definitely two way... requires both a good question... and a good "listener"....so it's definetly not just you.

Many thanks Liam.

I will take all feedback onboard - it has been an interesting journey thus far - you are all a pretty swell bunch of guys (and girls)..
