There are very few formats that Vegas will trim. Most long-GOP formats are among those that it doesn't.

OK so if my only option is to edit the clip > render to new track, than how can I do the "render to new track" insuring it is 100% "pass-through" (meaning the rendered file is exactly the same as the original )

here:

http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/208/876664#876664

it was said:

What you can do is select the part you want, (yellow loop points at top of time line) Render as 720P or 1080i, which ever your m2t files are and make sure to check "render looped region only", but first under options, preferences, theres an option to check "Enable no-recompress long_GOP rendering". Make sure this is checked. Then it will not re-render the video as long as you didn't add any effects, Just shorten it to the loop points you set.

so then why change settings in render dialog?? are setting ignored? how do i know "no-recompress" worked?

also, if I render to P2 file to sony mxf using same settings as original, is it actually the same or different because its now sony mxf and not raylight?

during render a message appears in preview screen saying something like no recompression needed

FYI: Vegas 9 no longer trims Cineform files but Vegas 8 does trim them with no problem. Sony is aware of the bug.
