Save vs. Render

Does anyone know the difference between Save As and Render
As on the File menu? The manual makes mention of it,
explains one of them in some detail, but doesn't really go
into the difference between them and why you'd want to use
one over the other.

"Save", by default, saves the project file. You can use
ctrl+s to save the project periodically without blowing
away your last used render settings.

But other than that, there is no difference between save and render?

right- one is for quick keyboard-iniitated saves of the project, the other is used for creating a media file-
