saving markers

jimingo wrote on 6/14/2005, 2:00 AM
I am using a nested veg project and I realized that when you import a veg file, all markers are lost. I really don't want to have to put all of those markers in again so I was wondering if there was a way to bring the original veg's markers into my project. I tried saving the markers from my original veg into an audio file and then just lining it up with the nested veg file, but I can't get markers into any type of audio file...not even a avi file without the video. (Saving the markers in a video file would be a real waste of time). Any suggestions?

Thanks

are you using vegas 6.0b. Is anyone using 6.0b and having trouble saving markers in the media files and the nested vegs? I do have the box checked to save markers in project.

Yes, the problem you are having has been brought up in other threads. It applies to Regions as well. I have thought of various possible workarounds, including writing a script, or exporting the markers to a file and then re-importing, but everything I can think of so far involves having to add some sort of offset depending on where you place the VEG file on the timeline in your final project.

Send an email to Sony via the Support -> Email link on this page. I've already reported it to them as a beta tester.

Is there any type of file that vegas saves markes in? I just realized that even a dv avi file doesn't save them. Will mpeg2 still work? (I did send this thread to support)

Basically Vegas treats the markers/regions in a nested Veg just the same way as it treats markers/regions insite an AVI file that your put on the timeline. You can SEE the markers/regions but they are no "brought" up to the "master" timeline. So - in a way that is "normal" bahavior.

However I too would like to be able to bring markers/regions from the nested Veg and have them appear on the master timeline.

There are a couple of scripts out there which will export the markers/reggions to a file and then allow you to re-import them into another. However... those scripts take them exactly as they are in the original file. As John says, you'll need something that also applies an offset based upon where you placed the nested veg in the master veg.

I think it is Ultimate S which has the marker/region export/import feature... so perhaps there is a way they could modify that feature? I think it would be a little messy anyway....

Actually, vegas isn't importing my markers period. I can't even see them in the nested veg file and I can't see them in a rendered file. Since I updated to 6.0b, markers do not get saved in my files. I used to be able to save my markers, but not anymore.

Me, too.
I just posted another, related, thread... used to be able to use Markers to create CHAPTERS when rendering mpg for use in DVD-Architect.
Now it seems I have to re-create all my chapters by hand, in DVD-A, after rendering the mpg.

Not a good change.

It may be that the box where you Save project markers in media file (Under Render as) has become unchecked in the upgrade process.
It works fine with V6 to DVDA here.

If you do a Batch Render instead of a single "Render as", it doesn't give you the option of checking (or not) the "save markers" checkbox. i.e., there isn't any such checkbox in the Batch Render dialog.

(BatchRender Pro had such a checkbox, but Vegas' built-in Batch Render script doesn't.)

earthrisers - yes I agree that Batch Render should have this capability if it doesn't already - in your previous post you didn't mention Batch Render - it sounded like you couldn't do it with any render.

Ultimate S does EXACTLY what you want. Download the latest version (post Vegas 6) and you’ll see a new option in the Save/Load Markers section to load the markers At the Current Cursor Position. This allows you to drop a veg file into your project, place the cursor at the beginning of the veg file and import the markers from there.

I made this change to Ultimate S specifically for the nested veg file feature of Vegas 6. (it was driving me crazy too) ;-)
