Saving Vegas Projects and Rendered Videos in Vegas Platinum 15

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 15. Serial No: P3-xxx

I am running Windows 10 on an Intel Core i7-2600k CPU@3.40Ghz

 with 16Gb RAM 64 Bit OS x 64 Processor64

I have three major problems:

1. Saving my unrendered Vegas Projects

2. Saving my rendered videos

3. Creating DVDs using Vegas Platinum 16 and DVD Architect

I keep getting Error Messages like this: "Unable to save your project due to a system error"

Because my C Drive had only 79Gb of space, I took the advice offered on your support page to create a new Temporary folder in one of my external drives with 500Gb of space, but the error message still appears.

Prior to this, back in February, I saved a wedding video project as a vf file on an external hard drive with 447Gb of free space.  When the project was completed, I saved it once again, this time an error message appeared:
“Some of the media on the timeline was not trimmed in order to preserve quality”.
The save process then began but then, not long after, another error message appeared:
“An error occurred while saving the project file “24-02-20 Ceremony Complete.vf”. The file could not be created”.
Could you tell me:
1.    Why did I receive these error messages?
2.    What do I need to do to trim the media in order to preserve quality?
3.    What is causing this error?

I am now unable to save any of my work. I am therefore desperately seeking your support.

Yours sincerely

JD Roberts

Your error messages sounds fair to me I think due to your used hardware. Can you specify your used hardware here exactly? But first you have to delete your serial in your Opening Post

So you have no extra internal harddrive?
How big is the total amount of space on the drive where C:/ is located (with your installed programs) and where is this one located?
Is your external harddrive always connected and always online?
What do you store at that external harddrive of 1 TB?

The 1 Tb drive is an external Maxtor. I also have a smaller external drive (150Gb) for documents. My C drive has 222 Gb, of which 77Gb is free. The C drive is an internal drive containing several programs such as Vegas, Finale and Audition. The 1Tb external H drive is always connected and online. In it, I store several pictures, audio and video files. It has 495Gb of space. I also have an internal 2Tb Data Drive of which 309Gb is used and 1.81Tb is free. this is an internal drive too. Is it possible to re-install Vegas and DVD Architect on this empty drive? Every program I've downloaded seems to always want to be installed on the C drive, that's why it's chocker!

I appreciate your support j-v.

My advice to you is to let the programs stay on your C drive and there in "Users/Your username/all the objects" that are able to replace, replace them to your other big internal drive.
Make there partitions where you can put your documents, pictures, video's , audio a.s.o.
On that internal harddrive / partion Video put all your source videofiles for loading into Vegas, etc. for the other sources for Vegas. For export the best you can use ( a partion of) for your render-to location. From there you can later export them to your external harddrive and clean that export partition.
That is about the way I use this programs on my desktop and laptop from signature and I have nowhere any troubles with Vegas or other edit programs.

Dear j-v

Could you clarify? When you say "partitions" do you mean create folders? I'm not an expert, so how do I create the Partitions? Also, I'm not sure what you mean in the sentence beginning, " For export, the best can use (a partion of) for your render to location.

Also, in the C Drive (Internal 79Gb free) when you say. "all the objects" do you mean all the files including the program files and TEMP Folders. Sorry, I'm not a computer expert.

No.
I"ll try although english for me is a foreign language and the examples I shall give you are sometimes in an englisch or other languages else than mine.
A partition is a separated part of your harddisc that I only use for 1 type of extra files as video, audio only, etc.
You can reach that option in Windows by clicking the startbutton and go to Start / All Programs / Windows system administration / Disk Management
where I see this

On the lower part I selected my SSD (drive 0) with C/: and a lot of other parts (called partitions) . With me the "Snelle renders" part was an amount of space that never can be used by C, because before I did that I replaced all the data that could be replaced from the Windows/C/: to the other drive ( called drive 1, my second 2TB drive) in parts also called partitons.
You can make a new partition with rightclick on a partition with a lot of not-used space.
The advantage of partitions is that if you delete there something it has no influence on the other partions and Windows ( and with that Vegas) can reach the other files that are needed much better.
