Scanner won't scan in Vegas!

I have called Sonymedia support and all they were able to tell me was to re-boot my software and lower my cpu acceleration. Big deal. I am using Vegas 5b. My scanner (Epson Presentation 1260) worked FINE with Vegas 4e. Now I cannot raise the Twain_32 when I press on the scanner button in the Media window. Sometimes I do raise it and the Epson manual interface comes up, but then I can only preview scan. When I press the scan button in the Epson interface, it does not scan (although the HD light indicates some action going on). The scanner performs correctly outside of Vegas, so Epson tells me it's a Sony problem! I believe that, but the last time I talked to Sony (a week ago) they said they'd get back to me and they haven't yet! Anybody have any ideas--outside of going back to Vegas 4. The scanner is a big part of how I make my living! I'm running Windows XP on a Sony Vaio and have updated all my Epson drivers.

Does Vegas 4 work correctly on the same system right now?

Are you running XP SP2?

Vegas 4 worked correctly when it was on the system and was my only NLE. I deleted Vegas 4 when I went with Vetas 5. I have NOT installed ANY windows XP service paks, neither 1 or 2. Thanks for your response.

Does Vegas 4 work (present tense) on the same system?

You can install the V4 demo, no impact on Vegas 5, to try just the scanner, get it here: http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/download/step2.asp?DID=447

Yes, I was using my scanner with Vegas 4 perfectly. It worked. Then I eliminated Vegas 4 because I decided to go with V5 after the first update (b) came out. I thought it would be OK. IMO it isn't. My V5 crashes allt he time, hangs up when I exit after I've done a lot of editing on it. Have to unplug the computer every time. This gets tiresome. I'm going to install my V4 again as you wish and see if it still works and I will let you know. I really WANT V5 to work in my system. Thanks,
Burt
