Scanning Slides for DVD production

I am looking at buying a second-hand Epson Perfection 3170 Photo scanner to scan the many slides I have & hopefully develop into a business down the track. Does anyone use this model for this purpose & are the results good??
Also is it easy to use?

I have looked up details on Google & reports say suitable for Windows XP Professional ( pre-installed) I have Windows XP Professional, but was not pre-installed on my computer. Would that make a diference??

Are any other models a better choice?

I've got the Epson Perfection 2400, which is a lower spec model. I'm very happy with it - the quality of scanned slides and negatives (the software will detect that you're scanning negs and reverse the colour) is better than I was expecting! The reviews of the 3170 I've read praise the hardware but criticise the software. That fits my experience of the 2400, but it's not realy a problem - the software works well but it's not as intuitive as I'd like. It doesn't take long to get used to it though and after that it's plain sailing.

The blurb I've read talks about the lamp being optimised for film - if you're planning on running a business it might be worth checking price and availability of replacement lamps. I've no reason to believe it's a problem - I'd do the same for any scanner!

I can't see that upgrading to XP would make any difference! If you've an old PC you might want to check you've got USB2 - it's a lot quicker.
