You want Scenalyzer Live - that is the full name of the capturing program (everyone just shortens it by leaving off the "live")

There is a "previous" product called "scenalyzer" that is still available for download at that site. This product would not capture. However, it WOULD look through an AVI file and split it based on optical scene detection.

Just to add to the confusion, ScenalyzerLive is often called SCLive. Same product, just two different names. jetdv (as usual) is correct: Plain old Scenalyzer is designed primarily to split already-captured video into individual files based on optical scene detection algorithms. This is occassionally useful. By contrast, Scenalyzer is useful every day. Batch capture, time lapse capture, stop motion capture, optical scene detection, send multiple clips to tape (without waiting for rendering of any intermediate files) and much much more.

After reading so much about 'Scenalyzer' I downloaded the trial version. Up untill now I'm using Vegas Capture Devise.
The result is that I get all my AVI clips numberd as 001 002 003 and so on.
With Scenalyzer capture I get the clips follwed by a series of numbers that are very confusing to me. Who can help me explaining the meaning of those numbers? Help by Scenalyser is as far as I can see not much help.
Thanks to all.

I believe you will find that it is the date and time that the video was recorded. Post the actual numbers and we'll translate for you. I don't have one in front of me right now or I'd use that. If memory serves, it's something like:

mmddyyhhmmss
(Month, Day, Year, Hour, Minute, Second)
newbe wrote on 9/24/2003, 3:11 PM
Thanks jetdv for your swift reply, the numbers look like this:
scene'2003053 09.45.03 avi.
Very mysterious to me.
jetdv wrote on 9/24/2003, 3:43 PM
The first part is the year, month, and day (I suspect you left out a number)

5-3-2003

The last part is the time

9:45 and 3 seconds.

It makes sence now, I did forget one '0'.
Can you also tell me where to find tne time code?
Thanks a lot.

If you don't like the way Scenalyzer names the files you can change it.

In Scenalyzer:

File -> Options -> Capture (tab) -> filenames

I changed mine to name0001.avi. From your post, I think you will like that a lot better too.

Both jetdv and you are very helpful. Big Thanks. What is "stop motion capture"? The main reason I am looking at this program is because I could not get date/time stamp infromation with the Vegas 4.

Another question, how compatible the avi files vaptured with this program with the Vegas 4? I have previously captured using VideoWave Movie Maker but the Vegas 4 will not be able play sound. The problem with capturing with Vegas 4 is that I got dropped frames.

Where can you download the version that detects optically?

What is "stop motion capture"?

Stop motion capture lets you take one individual still picture at a time, and have these individual pictures automatically strung together into a video sequence. It is what is used for "Claymation" animation, such as you may have seen in the wonderful "Wallace and Gromit" shorts, or the feature length "Chicken Run."

The main reason I am looking at this program is because I could not get date/time stamp information with the Vegas 4.

This will capture the date and time imformation, and you can also have it name the files using date and time stamps (which was the point of one of the earlier posts).

How compatible the avi files vaptured with this program with the Vegas 4?

They work just fine.

This way it looks much better to me.
Thank you very much.

I tried Scenalyzer (free version) and used it on some of the avi files I have captured with Vegas 4 and VideoWave. Scenalyzer extracted the date/time and breakdown the files into scenes according to time. However, when I clicked on "writing scenes" I got a message "out of memory". However, I have more than 110GB free space in that partition. I moved the original avi file to other folders but got the same problem, anybody has a clue what is wrong?

I highly recommend Scenalyzer Live. I use it for all my DV and analog (via an ADVC-100) capture and it looks flawless to me.

One of the nice things about this software is the support. If you have any problem at all you can e-mail Scenalyzer support and, based on my experience, expect a response within a few minutes to a couple of hours. Small but very first class company.

I, too, downloaded the trial version of Scenalyzer. My big beef with capturing stills from Scenalyzer is that the quality of them is not near as good as when capturing stills with Vegas (yes, I had both of them at their highest quality settings).

Another thing.
All of the date time info for EACH FRAME passes through firewire into Vegas when capturing from a miniDV camera. The reason that this is true is because if you capture video with Vegas, then burn it back to a different miniDV tape via Vegas, you will get all of the date time info per frame on the new tape.

This being the case, it seems like it would be easy for the Sony gurus to write a software plug in to capture this info on to still captures, if a person so desired it - like myself. Of course, once upon a time, I believed in Santa Claus too ...

I have on my drive AVI's that came came from old analogue tapes. Can one of these programs be used to scan it optically & give me new AVI clips?
