Scene Detection Problems

I made sure that Scene Detection was enabled and that date/time is on the tape. I have more than one event (e.g. a birthday celebration, video of my pet taken on another occasion, etc.) on a tape. I wanted to capture only one of these events which has different scenes (e.g., the camera was started and stopped a few times at this event). I marked the beginning and end of this event which occurred in the middle 40 minutes of the tape. When I captured it, however, instead of breaking it into scenes, I got one long clip. Is this by design or did I do something wrong? When you use markers, does scene detection no longer work?

I believe the capture of in and out points replaces scene detection. It is either one or the other.

Thanks for your response. I resorted to starting at the beginning of the event and capturing the rest of the tape which resulted in scenes being detected. It does look like it is not possible to mark in/out points and also have scene detection. I think this would be a useful option, however.
