Scene selection menu return-again

doboyd wrote on 3/21/2003, 3:28 AM
OK, I read all the posts on this topic before, and my understanding is that if I create a scene selection menu, and change the clip in/out points then it would return to that same menu?? Nothing I have tried works, my DVD digest and title butons still always take to the main page. I cannot use this, I need the functionality of DVD MF2, I select a scene, it finishs or I press DVD digest and I go back to the scene menu. What am I doing wrong.

I created a mani page, with a clip.
Create submenu, same clip, change in/out points
Create scene selection menu on same page, delete clip , use only scene select menu,
change in/out points

Always returns to the main page!

I cannot use this, I need to be able to navigate. everything else works fine, I just need to stay on the menu page I started from.

I might have to try DVD Workshop again, but its another bundle of money. I really like the other things in DVDA.

As I have understood this topic it is currently not possible with DVDA to have this function as long as your desktop player does not have/support the "RETURN" function. This is NOT the "Digest" function which does the same as the "TITLE".

So currently I see only two ways to get this:
1. Use a desktop player with "RETURN" function
2. Use another authoring application

Thanks, that is dissapointing as every thing else is good, and I don't really want to spend any more money on software, I only do this as a hobby and Vegas+DVDA has cost me a lot already, as I live in Australia the conversion rate isn't good.

I really like the software, I just need this functionality.

The same is valid for me - but sorry, I dont see any other workaround currently.
Maybe someone else any further ideas?

Is this only happening after you burn on the desk top player or is it happening in preview in DVD Architect? If this is happening in preview try this. Create a link to your clip on menu (sub or main), create a second link to the same clip on the same menu. Edit the second version of the clip to shorten slightly. Create a scene selection menu from the second version of the clip. Delete the link to the second version. Preview playing from any chapter point and the back button should bring you back to the chapter point selection menu. If it is a function or your set top player I don't have a solution. Anyway I hope this helps.

Yes, this is on a DVD+RW I test on my set top player, I never trust software players. I'm going to have to test again, I thought the DVDA preview did the same thing, I will have to try again. What I don't understand is why Ulead DVD MF2 can do this, and DVDA cannot. I really want to use DVDA, but if I cannot get any more functionality than a main menu with navigation it is not for me until it matures. All my DVD players only have DVD digest or title/menu buttons. One has a return(back??) but this player (Singer SDG001 ) does not recognise the play items, i/e/ menus but no highlighting. But DVD MF2 works on all my players as advertised.

I will try (again) your suggestion and test, and I will try not to get frustrated and take notice of the behaviour of preview and DVD player.

OK, I did a quick test, main menu, added clip, added 2nd copy, edited by moving out poiny in, ie less time. Insert scene selection menu, delete original 2nd clip. DVDA preview works correctly, PowerDVD does not, selecting either root menu or title takes me back to the main page. Am I editing the clip correctly, have I not done something??? I will test tomorrow on set top player but suspect it will behave the same as PowerDVD.

I expect you are right. I can't test this as I am still waiting for full version and can't burn yet. It does seem that a burned version should work the same in Power DVD and set top as in preview. I will test and post as soon as I get full version in the mail. If this is a bug, I am sure it will get fixed.

LOL! You're being critical of me and you just admitted you only have the demo and can't even import any MPEG files to see what the application can and can't do?

That's too funny! Say, are your and PB related by any chance?

I tested my DVD+RW as prepared before and it follows PowerDVD, only returns to the main menu using either menu/title key from a scene selection. It would seem that I cannot use DVDA until this navigation limitation is sorted. I don't have a back key on any of my players, and the return keys do not operate as a back key. I would have liked the workaround of changing the clips length to hve worked, but I can't see how, has anyone got this to work as described by SonicSDB etc in the previous thread?? How come Ulead DVD MF2 can?? I understand the limitations etc of DVDA and its features and I want to use it, but I don't know how any one uses it for anything other than a main menu single item, am I missing something here???
Johannes_H wrote on 3/23/2003, 5:00 AM
Exactly the same here!
As I already described, the workaround from wobblyboy does not help in this situation. The workaround is only for a special situation where you have more than one reference to a video from different menues. And even there it only works with the "Back Key" from within the Preview or (as I cannot verify) a desktop player with a working "Return/Back" key.
Also Sonic support sayed here more than one time: Both the "Digest" and the "Root" always go to the main menu.

I also do not understand why this works correctly with commercial DVDs and also with self made DVDs authored with other tools???

I have just joined the club. I finally got my Boxed System yesterday and was able to burn. I am having the same problem. In Workshop menu button returns me to the last sub menu, Top Menu to the top menu. In Architect both top menu and menu button return me to the top menu????????

Welcome in the club!
According to Sonic support this works as designed.
Does your Desktop player support a third key "RETURN"?
