Scratch tracks.

I am a Vegas Video user primarily, but I was wondering if I can use VV3 or VV4 to create music tracks. Lay down a kick drum first, change the tempo, add other instrument tracks, and then vocals. I have an Alesis keyboard.

If not, what would you recommend? I have Cakewalk Home Studio 9 but it seems to crash a lot, so I removed it.

Thanks,
John

I use vegas for all my music.
I do electronic music as well as acoustic recordings and i love it for that.

You can check someof my work here...all done only in vegas

Very nice indeed. If I want to set a metronome click first, then lay down a kick drum track using my Alesis keyboard. How do I do that? It doesn't seem to have Midi capabilities?

Connect the output of the Alesis to your computer input , engage record in Vegas and check levels.

Setup the metronome (adjust volume with the preview fader)

record.

Or ...the way i do it is just record one kick then decide on a tempo and set the grid to match and then move it around making copies by doing Cntrl+drag and make the pattern.

repeat for hihat and such.

For groove i make say....4 different copies of the kick and use the Snap offset (little trinagle left corner of soundfile) to make the kick snap a little late or early on the grid.

I'll try that.
