Screen Capture Utility

Any suggestions on tools to capture a screen for use in Vegas.

I have an application that runs at 1024x768 and would like to record the application to video to use in vegas.

Favorite tools?

Tried feeding output from computer to TV using video card and the output was not acceptable. Don't have access to a high end scan convertor.

Looking for a software tool.. I wrote one the captures stills at the frame rate of my choosing - but that is not really effective for long recordings.

In Windows, SHFT-PrintScreen, will place screen image on the clipboard... which you can then paste into just about any paint program of your choosing.

I personally use Corel Capture, which has been part of the CorelDraw family of graphics apps for some time. Currently part of CorelGraphics 12.

You can try Camtasia Studio. It records your desktop activity in real time as AVI. The quality is very good. You can download a 30 day, fully functional evaluation software directly from TechSmith:

If you don't need all the bells and whistles of Camtasia, Snag It from TechSmith is just as good.....and is only $24.95 I believe.

I was trying to capture a screensaver sometime ago (earth 3d space tour) to edit the AVI file later with Vegas. No deal. All applications includding Camtasia failed to meet my needs. Example: the last processor I tested with Camtasia was a P4, 3.2 (I gues it's not that bad, isn't it?). Believe me, there were banding everywhere (low quality video) and also some little kicks (can't find a better word to describe this) on the image.
People from Intel around here told me Camtasia does not support the new hypersomething technology and the software should be rewritten to let the processor work freely. I also tested Camtasia with Athlon 3.0. Same problem (a little worse for those kicks).
Finally someone around here told me to capture the screensaver with a flat monitor and a mini dvd-cam. I gave up.
I don't know what you are planning to do, but if you just want to capture screen movement to make a video for a guide or something, Camtasia works perfectly. Now, if you wanna capture a screensaver, forget it. If that's the case, your choice will be between the scan convertor you mentioned or the camera'n'flat monitor.
