Screen Goes Grey during Capture

New member to the Magix forum but been using Vegas since its inception. I am a casual user and NOT a power user, if that makes sense.

I am in the process of transferring a TON of old family video over to digital. Here is my set up:

Sony TRV608 Hi8 into Datavideo TBC-1000 into Sony MiniDV into my Win10 machine (by way of firewire) and captured in Vegas 18.

Years ago i used to capture video through a Canopus ADC (win 7 machine) and it all went without an issue. That ADC is long gone.

NOW when i transfer a tape i get random Grey screens during the capture. The audio still captures flawlessly AND the 608 & DV show video on their screen but for some reason Vegas just goes to a grey box and then comes back.

During this one 1.5 hour long capture it did this about 8 times. I rendered out a sample of my issue.

ANYONE have any idea what may be causing this?

Here is the video link:

Do you get the same "gray screen" when simply "playing" the video file?

If so, you should probably use another capture app. I would suggest the venerable Scenalyzer which can still be downloaded here. http://www.scenalyzer.com/

yes, its part of the 'captured' file. It faithfully goes grey at exactly the same time on playback.

Why would i want to use another Capture Program outside of Vegas? Is the one in Vegas junk?

Also, does Screnalyzer work on a 64 Bit Windows 10 machine? Looks like its a product that is no longer supported.

It's an old product, but does work extremely well, plus it's now free. You may get the same thing which would indicate a problem with your old recordings. The Hi8 format was notorious for having problems.

There's another app WinDV which others have used that you might also try. Here's the link. http://windv.mourek.cz/

When i started seeing this happen during the Xfr i kept an eye on Vegas while also watching the Hi8 machine. Vegas would go grey while the Hi8 played the video perfectly.
