Screenblast v. Vegas

I'm trying to decide between Screenblast & Vegas 4...

Is it true that there is no way to trim clips in Screenblast other than on the timeline? There doesn't seem to be a trimmer like there is in Vegas.

Also, is there a scrubber in Screenblast like there is in Vegas?

(I have a VideoFactory demo; can't find a scrubber or a trimmer).

Anybody here who has used both & prefers Screenblast/Videofactory over Vegas? Thanks for your input/advice.

Although Vegas is a great value (around $200 on the street), you'll probably find Screenblast/Video Factory will do anything its big brother can do -- just not to the same degree.

Screenblast does indeed have a trimmer. Here's JohnnyRoy's secret technique for accessing it and some other hidden controls:

There's a scrubber in there too.

It's really a pretty powerful little program!

I have both and I upgraded to Vegas because I needed more tracks. Now that Screenbast MovieStudio has 3 video tracks instead of 2, I probably could have gotten by a lot longer. I am now spoiled by the compositing capabilities of Vegas, and things like Track Motion, Velocity Envelopes, Color Correction, Supersampling, etc. so I don’t use VideoFactory anymore. You can do an awful lot in MovieStudio so it really depends on if you have the money for Vegas and think you will ever needs its advanced features.

As grisetti pointed out, you can unlock the trimmer and scrubber in the post he directed you to. I don’t know if this still works in Screenblast MovieStudio because I have VideoFactory.

I'm curious about the $200 street price for Vegas that grisetti mentioned. Is that in certain software retail stores? Somewhere else?

I must have misread the price.

Looks like version 4.0 of Vegas Video is actually selling for from $300-$400 on the internet.

I'm sure it's well worth it but, as I've said, for most of us, that $99 Screenblast will do pretty much anything we need and more.

If you buy Screenblast and then want to upgrade to Vegas, is there any special upgrade price, or do you pay full fare?

Upgrade prices are here.

I wouldn't call it anything special. Unfortunately, the product sells for less on the street than the upgrade price so it is definitely not a good idea to upgrade. This was not the case in the past. Right now, the competitive upgrade for Premiere users is cheaper than their own MovieStudio upgrade. Videoguys.com has a great deal which includes Douglas Spotted Eagle’s DVD Vegas 4 Workshop ($129 value) and its cheaper than the upgrade price.
