script icons using dll's

I know that it is a known issue ,at least i thought I read it here or Jedtv's site. Re: Vegas also recognizes .dll's and then the script icons become the shrtcut to the dll's instead of the script ie: excal4, ult S.
Just wasnt sure if this was a Vegas issue that they are working on fixing or if something needs to be changed/renamed in the script folder.
I've just eliminated those icon short cuts for the time being but I miss em,poor little buggers.
gotta put way in the back of the bus and go get'm via ; tools-scripting-then scroll down etc. ; (
not a real big issue , just wondering if i didnt miss the fix if its out there yet.

Well... I’m not sure what there is for Sony to fix. They change the way Vegas recognizes executable scripts so script developers will need to adapt to the new procedure. I have modified Ultimate S 1.1.9 so that both the JS file and DLL will run the script. So Vegas can swap the icons on the toolbar all it wants, the new version of Ultimate S will continue to work. This doesn’t solve the problem of other DLL’s that are not scripts showing up as well but we’re working on that too.

With Excalibur 4, only the entries with icons should be executed. The DLL's are not designed to be executed directly but they also do not have custom icons. I have Excalibur 4 on the toolbar and have not noticed Vegas wanting to use the DLL instead of the JS file unless I manually chose it.

Hmmm... I was placing the JS files on the toolbar and some of them would stick but then I’d run Vegas 6 again and two of them would swap to the DLL file (which had no icon so it was obvious which ones were switching) but some of them never switched. So it’s kind of random.

Same here, would it screw things up if say you changed the name of the dll image file in the script folder to say "utlimateSs".
one way I noticed the problem is if tou go to add the script icons to the toolbar, there are two of the same icons to choose from. obviously on being the js and the other being the dll. you have to guess at which one it is at first, but then after you get it right, I like Johnny, experience the problem when you close and reopen Vegas they get swapped.
so would changing the name of the little 2kb 16x32 image file .dll screw things up. I didnt want to just try it with out checking with you guys fisrt.

YES, this would screw things up. Never rename DLL’s that a program needs.

With Ultimate S 1.1.9 you don’t have to guess because it doesn’t matter which one you select. Both will work. In the future there will only be one but we were unaware Sony was making this change and I haven’t have time to redesign the installer yet. For other applications, selecting the one that has an icon, as Edward suggested, is a safe bet.

Those are words to live by. ;-)
