Unfortunately, not.

I would suggest creating a graphic in Photoshop (or like program) and use track motion.

Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V works fine for me.

Paste the text into an image file that is long enough to hold it all at a readable size. Then use Pan/Crop to pan down the list.

You're a genius Rosebud!

Guess I stand corrected. But I've never been able to get it work.

@Reberclark

That's the method I use for the rolling credits (using Gimp - 720 x height necessary to fit all the text/graphics), as it allows for infinite variation in styles/colours etc. I tried the Protitler but I found it way too limited.

I couldn't recreate what I already had (using Gimp) in the Protitler.

you can paste text in to the scrolling credit roll. And protype. and text. Once you paste them you will need to tweak them.

You can use images but then you're limited to what's in the image, you can't keyframe text properties.

Gimp would be a free way to go, and very straightforward. Just use Vegas to move the images up the screen.

Alternatively, I was just looking quickly at Flash CS3 and I think there are two or three ways I could make a credit roll in it that Vegas could use. At the very least I could animate it over a certain amount of time and then export a PNG sequence with Alpha. That looked like it would work and I *think* I could add some animated embellishments that way (Actually, I know it could be done but maybe not by me if I had a deadline looming). Also, it seemed like I could dump an awful lot of text into a text box in Flash.

However, I ought to be able to export a SWF file as a Flash 4 swf and bring it directly into Vegas. It wasn't working as expected so i'd have to spend a little more time with it before deciding it was a dead idea. In any case, a PNG sequence seems to be just fine and the Alpha channel seems to work. Drop shadow created in Flash also works and looks fine in Vegas when you import the PNG sequence.

The main disadvantage of this is that it cooks things into the crawl like speed, but you can mess with that a bit in Vegas. And of course you'd need to own Flash or close to it.

I'm not necessarily saying this is the way to go, just thinking out loud.

from B Stro:

Using the traditional scrolling text in Vegas is so tedious - you need to insert row by row, and I don't think it can be pasted - or am I missing something?

Yes -- the fact that you can paste into the credit roll generator. ;-)

Type up your credits in a text document one per line. Insert a tab for two-column lines. Select it all and copy. Click a line in the credit roll generator and hit Ctrl-V to paste. Adjust as needed.

Of course there IS another way . . .

Copy from WORD into the Ancient SONY Sample Text and use the Placement tab to position "en bloc" your text.

Previously I have introduced 250 names to run in a lower third this way. Now Vertically that would have 250 lines - Vegas SONY Text would have dealt with that too. What you need to do is to . . . ...

ok .. .

What you need to do is to place a "Minus" sign in the X or Y coord to get them off of the Placement window. I find that this is the easiest of the solutions and is a no-brain-er . .. it passes the "Grazie-Proof" test!

Don;t use Credit Roll generator .. if you must, you must. But it was far too tedious.

I have to agree with that. Using the plain ol' regular text event generator makes scrolling titles much more easily than the credit roll generator does.
