SCS re Wacom & may contain clues to other crashes

This reply came from CSC via their Australian Agent.

"The Wacom driver crash issue is a known issue listed in our database to be resolved in a future update of the application. It appears this happens most when GPU acceleration is turned on and the Wacom driver is enabled at the same time."

It seems that it may also be worth disabling GPU for other people having crashes to see if the crash still happens. I have noticed in a suite of 3rd party plugins one or two may cause a crash, so it may be reasonable to assume it is also a GPU issue.

hi violet,

as i asked previously, what video card are you experiencing these problems with?
violet wrote on 4/25/2012, 11:19 PM
Sorry didn't see your request about video card.

Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 x 2 SLI each with 1 GB GDDRS

interesting - i have 550ti and working fine - i read about some wacom probles with ati, but not nvidia.

in which case i shall obviously keep my finger crossed over my pen ;-)

Glad to see you are having no problems and I hope it stays that way.

But it is an interesting reply in that they are pointing to the GPU and as that is a fairly new feature not just with SCS but a number of 3rd party plugins it could be the source of many woes.

Let us hope SCS come out with an update as soon as they have the problems sorted.

@ushere - do you use your Wacom with Vegas? If so, in what way?

hi jerry,

as an alternative to a mouse - i find it more natural, avoids rsi (which i had from constantly using a mouse), and, i think, quicker....

@violet I got a similar email response yesterday. The GPU settings made no difference for me (I have ATI); it crashes very frequently with the Wacom driver enabled. It's been very stable with it disabled. Today, however, I decided to try out the Newblue 3D-Titler. That crashes instantly no matter what I do. I just drag it down to a track, and boom! I tried it with and without GPU acceleration enabled.

I asked support if they have a published list of "known issues" so I don't waste time looking for my own work around. I haven't heard back yet, but it would be nice if a list of known bugs was kept in one spot. (Does anyone know if that exists?)

@ pat s Yes it would be a great help if there was a list of known issues. It would save a lot of user time trying different fixes and workrounds.

SCS may see it as a marketing disadvantage; but Cakewalk by Roland's Sonar forum always has threads where users enter problems and usually someone puts all the major bugs into one post and as each is confirmed to be a known issue the corresponding bug has confirmed added to it. It seems to me that it has no effect on sales or reputation; but just the opposite in terms of Cakewalk responding to customer issues.

No one should expect bug free complex software, which can interact with drivers and hardware so I don't see any reason SCS cannot post a list of known issues.
