SCS should reset trial counter with each update

I had downloaded 9.0a shortly after it came out, and I had just reformated and installed Windows 7 RC from scratch, so Vegas 9 wasn't in the system at all. 9.0a still was as terrible as the first 9 for AVCHD editing, so I didn't touch it, I left it there and forgot to uninstall it. Now that 9.0b came out I downloaded it and installed it, but when I tried to run it, it said that the trial had expired so I couldn't run it.

Now I won't be able to test 9.0b and see if they improved anything other than that nasty titler bug, especially in AVCHD. They should reset the trial counter whenever they release a new update, because obviously I won't even think about upgrading to it unless I can test it and see if the bugs are gone.

i thought the trail counter was just based on that PC/OS, and when you formatted it let you do the trial again. I haven't done that with 9, but I've done that with previous versions.

If you Installed Vegas THEN Reformatted... your Trial period would be reset as it is now a New System.

If you Reformatted THEN installed Vegas... your Trial will end after 30 days.

I do NOT feel that the Trial should reset with an A, B, C, etc release/update as the program is still the same program, usually just with Bug Fixes.

...but that's the whole point of having trials. People deserve to see if the program is going to perform the way they need it to. If version A didn't, then maybe B will. If B doesn't, then maybe C will.

Exactly my point. If I didn't buy it it's because as it is it's not worth the money to me. If they fix the bugs that make it unworthy for me I don't have a way to know, and I'm not going to waste the time to re-install the OS and all my apps just to see if they fixed it.

The titler bug was fixed by all accounts - haven't heard anyone else having problems since the release of 9.0b - I'm not having any problems with AVCHD really - what other bugs are you interested in knowing the status on that aren't in the release notes?

Vegas 9 has had from the first release a bug in AVCHD playback. Most times you hit play on the timeline the footage starts playing at stuttery slow speed and it takes 3 to 5 seconds to speed up to normal speed. That makes it unbearable to edit. Vegas 8 doesn't have this problem, and never had. Also, 64 bit Vegas 9 has the same bugs as 8.1, one being that many times you open the program and when it loads the last project an error pops up saying that the source files can't be found. You have to close Vegas, open it back, and reload the project for it to see the files, which were not moved anywhere in the first place. The other 64 bit bug is that if you do a pre-render to a module that has a different size than that of the project (say, to 720p to do a faster preview in a 1080i project), it will modify the project properties to the size of the pre-render module, something that doesn't happen in Vegas 8.

And another one I just remembered is that if you are editing AVCHD 1080i and you pre-render to MPEG-2 1080i, it will only render the parts that have any filters or modifications added to it, but it won't render untouched footage, which is a problem because Vegas doesn't always play AVCHD at full speed even with quad core CPUs. This is also a bug in 8.1, but not in V8 32 bit. I don't know if the bug is also in V9 32 bit because I haven't tried it.

I agree, I tried 9.0 for a couple of hours before I deleted it off my system , didn't work for me, version a after the initial smooching from the fanboys proved a disaster, b is sounding better, would like to give it a test drive to see if I want to purchase. Obviously could load it on another machine, but got my vegas machine and would like it there with all the plugs and scripts and such

sebaz, for the issues you're having I'd suggest not even trying the trial until it's mentioned in the release notes it's been fixed, or version 10. Some things just never get fixed in the current version (I still remember 5 not having any track motion presets & it was never added again until 6).

But it's good you're trying before you buy it & not buying unless what you want is in it. I'm a fanboy but I do the same thing. :D
